Legendary pub, the Whitelock’s in Leeds

Pubs in Great Britain is serious, so serious as to merit articles and posts in major British newspapers, which now greeted with satisfaction the change of ownership for the Whitelock’s First City Luncheon Bar in Leeds, in the hope that the new owners know how to bring it back to its former glory.

But beware, if the customers in the past may have complained about the quality and price of beer, no one has ever complained about the pub, its furnishings, Victorian atmosphere that you breathe, so well preserved, so that the BBC will speaks as the hidden gem in Leeds.

Furniture made with tiles and brass, with tables and chairs the color of old oak trees. Born in 1716 as the Turk’s Head, was renamed in 1867 when it was purchased by Whitelock, who were its owners until 1994 has been repeatedly cited by major British artists, including John Betjeman, who called it “The real heart of Leeds”. Bibendum Restaurant

Speaking of the fiesta of Michelin in London, to mark the centenary of Great Britain guide. There is a superb decor in the taste of new art, a place of conservation, precise, playful and joyful, under the leadership of Sir Terence Conran, the designer/innkeeper who signed here one of the most beautiful achievements, more editor Michael Hamlyn, finally Chief Simon Hopkinson, that watch, in enlightened trio, on this preserved monument.

The meal? Well done, well seen, for a high number of guests, with catering aspects and a clear propensity to provide seasonal products. And the Saint-Jacques roasted (slightly stronger taste of the grill!) With its little mashed potatoes with black truffles, duck breast with Savoy pithivers (potatoes, cheese, onion in a light puff pastry) and spinach the cooking juices, then chocolate marquise with walnuts and kumquats. The new Savoy arrived. The legendary palace of the Strand, which reopened its doors officially, plays the wise gastronomy.

The place is called The River Restaurant and evokes deco side, the Relais Plaza Paris, though mezza vocation. The young Ryan Murphy, an American of New York, who worked in the three stars of the Big Apple, took in hands ranging House furnaces.

His style is London old and new style, lightly, not without subtlety. We taste and, in a chic brasserie setting and wooded, very Art Deco, with its Belle Epoque paintings, leather armchairs, its walls painted in beige and wood, the lovely trio of salmon (marinated, smoked, fried), the end pressed foie gras and confit with plum chutney and sauternes jelly, cod with celeriac puree or lamb in mille-feuille potatoes.
